Midnight in the Garden of Lust, by Roger Paulding

This is the first novel by Roger Paulding in the Miss Starlight murder mystery series. The dialogue is sharp and the description arresting and Paulding’s terse style comes through with the creative precision of a tropical hot-house, making for an effective vehicle for Miss Starlight’s pseudonymous investigation of corruption in high places in Galveston, the Texas version of New Orleans. In Galveston or elsewhere, Paulding is the alternative Bourbon Street version of John D. McDonald, with Miss Starlight substituting for Travis McGee. —SiriusReviews.com
